"Send lawyers, guns, and money!"

So, another update and I got to be upfront, my day job fried my brain like an egg. I have not thought much about anything besides work. I have had some creative thoughts rolling around and I might be about to do something with those coming soon.

One random thought I have is to format my blog stories as ebooks. I’m thinking this will give me some good experience in solo publishing my work on platforms like Amazon. Formatting is a whole different beast from other writing I’ve done. Zach certainly has been on a journey with formatting.

I have a backlog of writing projects I could experiment with, so something for the future.

On another note, I have finished that Lovecraft article I have been hinting at the past couple weeks. I say an article but it's more like a series, eight parts in total. So February and March every Thursday on the site will have a Lovecraft part released.

I call the series “My 10 Recommended Stories by HP Lovecraft”. This series basically is my recommendation list for those new to HP Lovecraft. And I got pretty excited and went into a few rants here and there about most of the stories featured. One website of note that helped me get through the article was “The HP Lovecraft Historical Society” and their awesome audiobooks available in their store:

https://www.hplhs.org/

During my research on HP Lovecraft and his stories, I discovered a little something on a movie the HPLHS made that I really enjoyed. They provide a little history on the movie’s production and the phrase “Lawyers, Guns, and Money” comes up. Now, a bit of a tangent here but here me out.

Simply put, the phrase most certainly references one of my favorite musicians, Warren Zevon. I actually got into his work months before he passed away due to cancer. I bought his final album “The Wind” not too long after he passed and when I found out he had went to that big concert in the sky, I was pretty bummed. His final album really has a lot of emotion behind it, I highly recommend it.

Anyway, my favorite album by Zevon is perhaps his best known, “Excitable Boy”. This album features such gems as “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner”, “Nighttime In the Switching Yard”, Zevon’s best known hit “Werewolves of London” and of course, “Lawyers, Guns, and Money”. And I have had all of these songs stuck in my head without relistening to Zevon recently.

I listened to Zevon so much in my youth and his songs are forevermore stuck in my head. Just seeing the phrase “Lawyers, Guns, and Money” on the HPLHS website just called back some deep memories. The man is literally sitting on my brain. I really should do a retrospective on Zevon, and his albums “Excitable Boy” and “The Wind” sometime in the future. After that Lovecraft article though, I might lay off non-story writing projects for the time being. We shall see.

Anyway, this is a short blog for today. I’m beat on many levels and look forward to saving my energy for some actual story writing. Seriously, January is almost over and I have been doing so much with articles and the website, I have not been giving myself time to enjoy my hobby of writing.

Good Luck and read some HP Lovecraft while listening to Warren Zevon,

—Buck

PS: I found my “Excitable Boy” CD! Thought I could just listen to the album online these days. Actually, that is a fair point, I did first hear Zevon online before getting his CDs. Now CDs are becoming a thing of the past (if they have not been already).
